Track Competitor

Monitor a competitor's website, pricing, and changelog, then report what changed since the last check.

Inputs

  • Competitor name — Full company or product name; e.g., "Acme Corp"
  • Website URL — Public domain to visit; e.g., https://competitor.com
  • Focus areas — What to watch: pricing, features, changelog, blog, design. Defaults to all.
  • Baseline snapshot — Prior report to diff against; blank means first snapshot.

Steps

  1. Visit the competitor's website and take a full-page screenshot; record the URL and date.
  2. Extract current pricing tiers, feature lists, and positioning language from public pages.
  3. Check for a public changelog or blog; note the 3–5 most recent entries with dates and titles.
  4. If a baseline snapshot exists, compare pricing, features, and messaging; highlight new, removed, or modified items.
  5. Synthesize findings into a brief report: what's new, what's discontinued, what shifted in positioning.
  6. Recommend follow-up actions if significant changes are detected (e.g., "Pricing dropped 20%") but do not send without human review.
  7. Store the report with timestamp, URL, and snapshot link for audit trail.

Constraints

  • Do not access paywalled or authenticated content; stick to public pages only.
  • Avoid heavy automation that triggers rate-limiting; one snapshot per competitor per week is safe.
  • Report findings only to designated team members; do not publish without approval.

Done when: A timestamped report compares the competitor's current pricing, features, and public changelog to the prior baseline and lists additions, removals, and messaging shifts.
