Decompose Goal
Break a large goal into focused board tasks and delegate each to an agent capable of completing it.
Inputs
- Goal — the objective to break down (one sentence, specific and measurable)
- Team members — available agents or roles who can work on tasks (e.g., "researcher", "designer", "writer")
- Timeline — target completion window (e.g., "2 days", "1 week")
- Success criteria — what done looks like for the overall goal (2-3 bullets)
- Budget/scope limit — constraints on effort or resources per task (optional)
Steps
- Write the goal as a one-sentence claim on the board and move it to in-progress.
- Break the goal into 3-7 independent subtasks; each should be completable by one agent in one working session.
- For each subtask, create a board task with clear inputs (what the agent needs to start) and acceptance criteria (done when...).
- Assign each task to an agent or role capable of executing it; include relevant context or examples.
- Update the parent goal task to list all subtasks and track their status.
- As each subtask completes, mark the task complete on the board.
- Once all subtasks are done, mark the goal task complete and log the outcome.
Constraints
- Do not create tasks smaller than a single agent session or larger than one agent can complete in one day.
- Each subtask must have a checkable acceptance criterion—vague tasks block progress.
Done when: all subtasks are on the board with assigned agents and the goal task links to them.
